Jhiki. Typeface design and specimen.

Problem. The brief was to take an everyday object and turn it into a typeface.

Solution. A serif typeface inspired by the Japanese sujihiki knife, with elongated, pointed forms that translate the blade’s sharpness into letters.

Process. The letters were composed from a 4x7 grid of squares, which keeps the system consistent across the alphabet. A specimen then shows the typeface in use.
